Ahhhh I am nervous about this post! This truly is my biggest hair secret and my biggest hair saving grace in one post! So, when I tell you what it is, don't tell ANYONE, just send them to this post to find out!
My freshman year of high school, I got dandruff. Bad. I tried a ton of different shampoos and home recipes, but nothing worked. Honestly, I gave up. I mean, I have been using Head and Shoulders shampoo religiously since then, but I just ignored the itchy scalp and the tiny flakes all along my scalp for SEVEN YEARS.
This summer, I had a little bit of a hair trauma. After a regular hair appointment, my hair was not the color that I am used to. I was looking up ways to get the color out and came across clarifying shampoos. Clarifying shampoos are shampoos on steroids. They get rid of oil and dirt but also go a layer deeper to get rid of any product buildup on your hair. This is for those girls (me) that consider dry-shampoo-covered-hair clean ;) It can also strip color off of your hair, it is THAT strong. I headed to Target to find a shampoo that wouldn't break the bank and came home with this.
So, after I used this beautiful new-to-me product, guess what?! No dandruff!! And I have not had any flakes in my hair since! After all these years I can not believe that the secret to healthy hair was in clarifying shampoo. Clarifying shampoo is not just for dandruff! Anyone that uses products (shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, heat protectant, dry shampoo) can get product build up on their scalp, and this removes all of that !
Clarifying shampoo strips your hair so thoroughly that you absolutely have to follow it up with a deep conditioner all over your hair, not just on the ends. I use this one or this one and let it set for five to ten minutes. After that, my hair is so fresh and so clean. Another thing, you can only use a clarifying shampoo every now and then. If you wash your hair every day, you could use it once a week. However, if you are less frequent, use it every other week and you will have full, healthy hair.
Have any of you ever used clarifying shampoos or another hair product I have to know about? Let me know in the comments!
