New Year's Resolutions: Taking Care of My Skin

January 12, 2017

One of my New Year's Resolutions was to start taking better care of my skin. In my opinion, I already do a pretty good job with pampering my face, but the rest of my skin doesn't get as much TLC. So, today I am sharing my very favorite products for my face and I'll talk about the body products I am going to start using to help meet my resolution!

My number one tip to healthy skin is drinking plenty of water throughout the day. I can tell a difference in my skin on the days I don't drink as much water as I start noticing those beautiful red bumps we all love!!! I set up a water drinking schedule to make sure I keep drinking throughout the day. It's easy to not drink when you're busy with work, school, kids, etc!

My favorite face products ever!!! These are my ride or dies, my day ones, my tried and trues. Keep reading to see why I heart them.

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream - shout out to my sister introducing me to and getting me a new tub of this for Christmas!! This stuff is pricey, but it is worth it! It claims that it works for all skin types and I have to agree! I have dry skin around the perimeters of my face but an oily T-zone. I find that this moisturizer hydrates my dry areas but does not make my oily areas worse. It also contains age-defying properties because it's never too early to prevent wrinkles!

Freeman's Charcoal & Black Sugar Facial Polishing Mask - this is a giant bottle of face mask and it is less than $5! I love it not only for the price but because it's a mask AND exfoliator. You rub it on and let it sit for 5-10 min, then scrub it in circular motions as you are removing it. Charcoal sounds weird to put on your face but it absorbs oil and impurities without drying out your skin. Sounds like the perfect mask to me!

Philosophy Purity Made Simple Facial Cleanser - this face wash is gentle but it will get your face CLEAN. Sometimes I'll rub a cotton pad with toner on my face after washing it with this stuff and usually there is no dirt leftover! This is my second big bottle like this and sadly, it's empty. I've linked to the big bottle, but they also sell smaller sizes at Sephora and Ulta.

Clarisonic Mia 1 - The Clarisonic changed my skin! It went from terrible to pretty good (I still wouldn't say I have perfect skin though). However, when the first two weeks I started using this, my skin freaked. I read online that this is pretty normal. The Clarisonic cleans so deeply that new dirts and oils are pulled up to the surface. After that initial period, my skin cleared right up! I kind of liked knowing it was working! Plus Ulta will have this set for $99 on

My first body product doesn't exist anymore, but I wanted to note the importance of exfoliating your body. Your skin is constantly turning over, new cells being made and dead skin cells being shed. But, a lot of these dead skin cells stick to the surface of your body, making your skin rough. Exfoliating will remove these rough cells giving you soft skin that will absorb your lotion better!

The Body Shop Body Butter - my cousin introduced me to this after she used it for prom and said her legs were glowing. I want glowing legs, but no greasiness, and I need it to last a long time. This body butter gives me just that! A little bit goes a long way with this stuff! Plus they have tons of scents so you're sure to find one that you love.

Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash with Shea Butter - not to be dramatic or anything, but over the summer I experienced a skin crisis. It seemed like no matter how much lotion I put on my arms and legs were actually flaky (yuck!!). My mom had just the thing and it was this body wash! My skin became smooth again and I still use it to this day!

Coconut oil - if I had to throw away all of my beauty products and only keep one, I would keep this. It does everything for me! I use coconut oil to remove my makeup at night and I cannot tell you how well it works. No matter how bold or waterproof the makeup is, coconut oil just melts it right away. I also use coconut oil as a moisturizer on my face before bed sometimes. I use it as a hair mask to help smooth my split ends. I also use it to shave my legs and can't even remember the last time I bought shaving cream because this does the job so much better! As you can see, this does everything for me.

These are the products that will be in my bathroom cabinet this year! Leave a comment below letting me know your favorites. I love testing out new products!
