I thought I could do a fun little series all about my New Year's Resolutions! What they are and how I am carrying them out. This will also help hold me accountable to actually doing these things!
So here is my list:
Exercise at least four times a week (this is a pretty predictable one)
Cook more (no more dining hall food for me!!!)
Take care of my skin
Be more intentional with my quiet time
Add money to my savings account (instead of taking money from it)
Spend less time on social media
Be more grateful
Read one book a month
Do a blog post at least once a week!
For some of these resolutions, I will do individual blog posts on how I am sticking to them, but for the others, keep reading to find out my ideas for them!
Be more intentional with my quiet time.
My quiet time is such a vital part of my day. For me, quiet time is taking 15-20 minutes out of my day, reading the Bible in a peaceful environment, and journaling and praying over what I read. When I started college, someone introduced me to She Read's Truth, a website for women that includes a daily reading and a devotion that goes along with it. I love She Read's Truth and would recommend it to anyone, whether you are new in your faith or you are wise in the Word. However, I need something that requires a response from me. Something that asks me questions and challenges me to act on them. Something that pushes me to get my own interpretation from what I just read. That's why during the month of January, I will be following this plan!
I know it's January 2nd, but it's never too late to start and I encourage you to do it with me! I have also recently discovered Proverbs 31 Ministries. They have a daily reading and devotion too, but their's has a response section that asks questions and encourages action!
Be more grateful.
I saw this idea on Pinterest and I am definitely doing it. I am going to find a cute jar and at the end of every week I will write something good about that week or something I am extremely thankful for that week. At the end of 2017 I'll be able to look at 52 pieces of paper, which is just a fraction of things I am grateful but I know will give me perspective.
Read one book a month.
I love to read!! But I am not very good at reading for enjoyment during the school year. So, this year I am going to try and read at least one book a month. Here are some on my list right now!
Present Over Perfect by Shauna Niequist - this will be the first book I read! It is kind of one of my New Years Resolutions to be present over perfect. So many times I miss out on completely enjoying the moment because I am already thinking about making sure whatever is next is perfect! Basically, I need this book
A Man Called Ove by Fredrick Backman - this one will probably make me cry because I always cry when old people are involved! This one is about a cranky old man whose new neighbors soften his wittle heart.
Crazy Love by Francis Chan - I have heard so many good things about this book! According to the Amazon description, it's about breaking from the status quo of Christianity and pursuing a passionate relationship with God.
Cancel the Wedding by Carolyn Dingman - my favorite blogger said this was her favorite book out of all the one's she read for 2016, so I am definitely checking this one out! It's about a woman heading South to fulfill her mother's dying wishes. Any girly book based in Georgia, I'm reading.
If you're looking for more book suggestions, you can check out one of my book reviews here.
Do a blog post at least once a week.
In my last post, I talked about how I want to take this blog more seriously, so I am very excited about keeping this one!
Keep checking back to hear about my other resolutions! I would also love to hear about yours, so leave a comment below letting me know about your resolutions!
